Osho on Sex, Money & Power: Understanding Desire Without Guilt

Why I Picked Up Osho

Hi friends ,

I’m Janak, and recently I revisited some powerful books by Osho especially his insights on sex, money, and power. I know, these are words that usually come with judgment or resistance. But Osho invites us to look at them differently not as vices to suppress, but energies to understand, transform, and integrate.

If you’re someone curious about self-awareness, healing, or spiritual exploration (or just tired of feeling guilty for wanting more), this blog might give you a fresh lens. It’s not about agreeing with everything Osho says, but learning to observe our own truth.

What Osho Says: A Quick Dive into His Philosophy

Osho didn’t shy away from taboo topics. In fact, he believed:

  • Sex is a natural energy, not a sin.
  • Money is a form of energy that reflects our inner abundance or poverty.
  • Power can either enslave us or elevate our consciousness.

These aren’t problems. The problem is how we relate to them.

Sex: From Repression to Realization

In From Sex to Superconsciousness, Osho writes that sexual energy is the root of life, and trying to deny it often causes more harm than healing. According to him:

“Sex is the seed; love is the flower; compassion is the fragrance.”

If you’ve ever felt guilt or confusion about sexuality, Osho offers a powerful reframe. It’s not about becoming indulgent, but about becoming aware of desires, fears, conditioning.

Try this:
Spend one evening journaling about your first memory of sex education, shame, or curiosity. What story were you told? What do you believe now?

💸 Money: A Mirror of Your Mindset

In Money, Power and Innocence, Osho shares that money isn’t good or bad it’s a tool. He said many spiritual people avoid wealth out of fear or false ego, while many wealthy people chase money without inner peace.

Money, like love, flows best when you’re open, clear, and honest.

He writes:

“Money is simply a means. It has no value in itself. It becomes beautiful if it reflects your inner richness.”

Try this:
Track your money habits for one week how you earn, spend, give, or hoard. What emotions come up? Is it love, fear, guilt, joy?

Power: Ego Trip or Conscious Creation?

Osho warns that power often leads to ego games. But he also says that true power comes from awareness, not control.

You don’t need to dominate others you need to know yourself deeply. Leadership, creativity, influence—these come from inner clarity, not outer aggression.

Try this:
Spend 10 minutes daily in silence or meditation. Ask: Where in life am I trying to control things too tightly? Just notice.

What Modern Psychology & Other Thinkers Say

Interestingly, many modern thinkers echo Osho’s ideas.

  • Carl Jung believed the shadow (our hidden desires and fears) must be integrated to become whole.
  • Brené Brown talks about how shame kills growth and vulnerability is power.
  • Alan Watts encourages surrendering to the present instead of fighting the flow of life.

We don’t have to choose between spiritual insight and modern science they often align beautifully.

Final Thoughts

If you’ve ever felt stuck in guilt about wanting more more intimacy, more financial freedom, more impact—Osho’s work might feel like a breath of fresh air. He doesn’t promise comfort, but he encourages you to drop your masks and live authentically.

We often divide life into material and spiritual. But maybe, just maybe they’re not enemies. They’re just energies waiting for awareness.

Let’s not fear desire. Let’s understand it.
